As domain registrar Porkbun puts it, “Finding a good domain name can be difficult.”
Even more than that, it can be subjectively pricey if you want to buy a domain name for whatever your new project is. Most registrars have an introductory rate that may be reasonable, but then the cost will sometimes double when it’s time to renew or even if you want to buy your URL for a couple of years from the start.
Other Registrars
For instance, Godaddy is a well-known domain registrar (I’ve used them for years) where you can buy a domain for $11.99 for the first year. Then, as expected, the price shoots up to $17.99 when it’s time to renew.
When you register a domain name, you have to provide your contact information. The contact information you provide isn’t just used to complete your purchase. It’s made public to anyone who does a “whois” search for your domain. It may include your name, address, phone number, etc. It’s a good idea to do what you can to make this information private for your own piece of mind and safety.
Luckily, you can have Godaddy make the information made private for the fee of $9.99/domain per year.
So, for the first year with Godaddy, you’re looking at $21.98 for your domain and your privacy. While that’s not horrible, again subjectively, there are other options.
Porkbun Awesomeness
I want to talk about one of those options. It’s called Porkbun.
Porkbun is a domain registrar who seems to put the customer first instead of nickel and diming them for every little thing.
Let me explain.
Instead of paying $11.99 for the first year for a domain and another $9.99 for some privacy, Porkbun lets you buy a domain for the first year for only $5. Renewals for additional years is only $8.56. BOTH of those prices are less than HALF of what Godaddy charges.
Not satisfied with that? You want more?
Fine.
Not only will you pay half of what you’d expect to pay at Godaddy, Porkbun INCLUDES domain privacy at no additional charge.
I’m going to say that again: Porkbun INCLUDES domain privacy at no additional charge.
Here are some additional features that Porkbun includes at no additional charge:
My point is this: If you’re looking for a new domain without spending a ton of money, you should definitely take a look at Porkbun and see how much you can save when buying from them!
