Flixier was introduced to me recently when Paul, one of its co-founders reached out to me to see if I would be interested in checking out the service. While I get a few of these emails every once in a while, more often than not, I don’t do anything with them. But this email was different.
I’ve made several videos about Chromebooks and that’s what sparked the initial contact between Paul and myself.
Flixier is a video editing program like Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro. The big difference is that this editing program is run in the cloud and is backed by Amazon’s AWS servers for responsive editing and SUPER fast exports.
While the app is still being developed, it is a fully functioning editing power house.
Users can import footage directly from their device or from any of several cloud services. Once the footage is imported from Google Drive, Dropbox, or One Drive it can be cut, color-corrected, and tweaked just as you would expect from any of the other major players in video editing.
There are a few things that are still being developed. For instance, keyframes are a big thing that is coming and those will dramatically improve the things that can be done with Flixier.
Also, there is a small amount of editing that can be done with audio, but a better audio editing experience is on the way.
The primary focus of this review and video is the editing experience itself, but its worth noting that the public area is still being worked on as well. That being said, the numbers you see for pricing and resources will be updated as more time goes on. So, if you go check out Flixier now, understand that everything is subject to change.
Because Flixier is an online service, it’s got a feature that other video editing software doesn’t have: You can start your edit on one device and pick up editing on another device by simply logging into your account on the new device.
What I will say is this: Flixier is a very cool online editing software. Think, “Google Stadia for video editing.”
