This video/blog isn’t meant to encourage you to install Rogue or to even explain what Rogue is other than an alternate firmware for the RG350.
That being said, though, there are some user interface improvements that come with Rogue that were my main reason for installing it. A big reason is that Rogue shows the actual battery percentage rather than just a battery indicator.
That being said, let’s move on to what you’ll need in order to install Rogue.

SD Memory Card Formatter for Windows Download

Win32 Disk Imager

You’ll want to download and install (as applicable) the 4 pieces of software listed above in order to complete this.
Installing the Rogue Firmware
Insert the microSD card into the reader and insert the card reader into your PC. Use the SD Memory Card Formatter to format the microSD card a couple of times for good measure.
Then use Win32 Disk Imager to write the Rogue firmware (sd_image.bin) to the microSD card.
Replacing the Stock MicroSD card
Remove the 4 screws from the back of the RG350 and then remove the back plate. Be cautious when doing this as the battery is glued to the back plate and the battery cable is short. Also, the shoulder buttons are just resting in the front half of the device and they fall out pretty easily.
Once you’ve removed the back plate, locate the internal microSD card. It will be held in place with a sticker. This sticker isn’t required, but it’s there for warranty purposes. Cut the sticker and remove the microSD card.
Set the newly removed microSD card aside and store it somewhere safe in case you need to go back to stock for some reason.
Now insert the microSD card with the Rogue firmware on it into the empty microSD card slot.
Plug in the battery cable, reattach the back plate, and screw the 4 screws back into place to secure everything.
Installing Games, Apps, and Emulators
Now remove the microSD card from the bottom of the RG350. You will need to use your thumbnail or something to push it in a little and get it to release.
Plug the microSD card into the USB card reader and plug it into your computer.
Extract the “localpack-v3.7z” file into its own folder. Then copy the 4 folders that were extracted into a folder on your microSD card called “extras”.
Once that has copied over, remove the microSD card from the reader and plug it back into the slot on the bottom of the RG350.
Go to the home screen on the RG350 and find an application called “DinguxCmdr”. This is a file explorer app.
Your cursor will be in the left column. Press the “B” button repeatedly until you’re in the root directory.
Then navigate to “media/sdcard/extras” in the left column.
Once you’ve done that, press the right arrow on the Dpad. That will move you into the right column. Once there, press the “B”button until you’re in the root directory.
Then navigate to “media/data/apps” in the right column.
Press the left arrow to go back to the left column and open the first folder. In that folder will be a number of files that end in “.opk”. Press the “Y” button to bring up a menu and press “A” to “Select all”. Then press “X” top “copy” the files in the left column into the right column.
Repeat this process for each of the folders under “extra” in the left column. There will be quite a few files that will amount to several hundred megabytes of data, so each folder copy may take some time. If you’re asked if you want to overwrite existing files, you can say “Yes to all” and let the files copy over.
Once you’ve copied over all the files, you’re done. You can then press “Y” to bring up the context menu and select “Quit” to go back to the home screen and start playing your favorite retro games on your RG350 with the custom Rogue firmware.
